Why doesnt the auto part store install the oil fil in when u purchase the oil? What will happen in they just add oil using the old filter? I haver not had my car oil change since June. how long will my car last if I dont have a chance to change the oil some time this up coming week?

transitbeats replied: "they forgot"

BIKER DUDE replied: "Because mechanics and do it your selfers do that. It is a store. Not a garage."

phobiaofme replied: "they just get paid to sell the stuff but if u ask im sure they will help u"

dodge man replied: "because all they do is sell the parts and things you buy ,that part is left up to you or a garage to do,their not in the repair business, just the selling of auto parts, good luck."

Rudolph'sGrandma replied: "Because they can make their money selling the oil not the service."

CwboyBill replied: "If you don't change the oil filter you will have five quarts of dirty oil."

Lonnie P replied: "They just SELL the parts; you or someone you know has to put them in."

Robert M replied: "Are you asking bout the oil filter or the oil. The filter needs to be changed when the oil is changed. Putting oil in your car could be a liability for the store so if something goes wrong they are not at fault or they are just lazy. Either way someone that knows what they are doing should preform the work."

abyss672 replied: "It is an auto parts store not a repair shop and you can do an oil change on your own all you need is an oil filter wrench, a drain pan, and a wrench to take out the drain plug. you take out the drain plug and the oil filter and drain the oil into the pan once the oil is drained you replace the drain plug and fill the filter with oil and install after you fill the vehicle with oil run it and check the oil after you turn off the car to see it you have enough oil. If the oil is a little over the full line its ok"

wayne d replied: "It sounds like you car was low on oil and they filled it for u. Which was nice that they did that. Oil changed in june? np You should change at at 3000 miles/ of 3 months whichever comes first. Religiously. But id check oil regularly, cause since it did need oil. it is using it."

Should it not work if you use a distributor part from a auto parts store instead od one from the manufacturer? About 7 months ago I replaced my distributor from an auto parts store and my car ran fine. About a month ago my car did the same exact thing and sounds like it will start but isn't firing. I replaced the distributor again from an auto parts store and it didn't fix the problem this time. I was told it was probably the ignition control module/ignitor but the toyota dealer said it was probably the distributo not working because it wasn't one from the manufacturer. This is a 1993 Camry. Can anyone please help!!!!!

freebirthfreddy replied: "Your dealer is stretching the truth. Parts from the manufacturer are of a slightly higher quality in some cases, but auto parts store replacements are generally very reliable. My advice would be to find a reputable mechanic (not the dealer) and have him/her look at your car. If the dealer is willing to lie to you about needing to purchase name-brand parts, I'm concerned they could also charge you for repairs you don't need. I personally never go to dealers for any repairs, it's not worth my money."

Robert D replied: "After market Distributors are fine and sometimes better than original, such as MSD ignitions. Your Totota guy is blowing smoke out your tailpipe! I use aftermarket on high performance engines."

fire4511 replied: "The Toyota dealer has a vested interest in convincing you that only the OEM parts will work. This is no different than McDonald's saying that Burger King should be avoided. The dealer makes money on parts sales! They make no money on sales of aftermarket parts. Replace the ignitor. The parts from the parts store will work fine!"

Eric replied: "If it is the correct part from Toyota or "Joe's Parts" it would do the job just fine. How are the plugs and ignition wires?"

Who really cares replied: "ok, Now if you buy a distributor from an auto parts store or the manufacturer it make no difference. The only difference is Quality and no Dealership offers "Quality". The buy the cheapest SH*T on the earth and call it Quality, why ? The word Quality means different things to different people period. I may feel that a high quality brand like say Bendix brakes is best and it is by reputation, however a Spanish guy may feel that Generic is better quality for "his" dollar and its all he can afford. If you have a distributor that has wires coming from it, you do not need a new one, all you need to do is remove the cap, view the contacts underneath, use a screwdriver and remove the corrosion from the contacts and reinstall, your done. This is what we in the business call a minor tune-up."

Gabriel replied: "My money's on wires or spark plugs. I'd tell you about the toyota shop guy but it looks like you've already gotten your answer there."

What does "unpainted" mean when you buy auto parts on eBay or any other auto part store? I'm planning to buy a spoiler for my car, and it's silver. So I'm wondering what "unpainted" means, so if it's naturally silver, then I don't have to spend any money on painting it.

Petit Chou replied: "Silver may be the base coat as opposed to black, white or rusty red. The overall finished hue of the painted spoiler would depend on the colour of the primed surface. . . . do you have a link for the ad?"

digitalchinky replied: "It means it has no paint applied. The colour you get is the colour it came out of the manufacturing plant, maybe just raw metal. You are right, if the colour is naturally silver, then no paint necessary :-)"

opaldigger replied: "un painted means that you have to paint it yourself as most spoilers are black plastic you will have to paint it to suit the car"

John W replied: "It is FLat silver, no shine. Like primer"

Goober G replied: "Unpainted means that there is no color paint applied at all. In the case of something metal, it is usually just coated in primer, which is used as a base coat for the paint to stick to, and also adds a level of rust protection for steel parts. Sometimes aluminum parts come totally bare. Primer is a very dull, light grayish color. Unpainted for plastic means just that. No paint. just the color of the plastic, whatever it may be. Unless you're lucky and get a spoiler made of plastic that matches your car color, you're going to have to paint the part!"

I will like to start an auto part store, Where do I start.? I what to open this store outside the country, I have spoke to some people but no one is giving the information I need, so my question again how do you start an auto part store

masterv88 replied: "you need lots and lots of money and you have to find cheap parts that you can buy and then turn around and sell them for hell of money. basically you have to look around and find wholesalers that sell all sorts of car parts. i hope you dont think its easy cuz i tried to start a gaming cafe and it turned out to cost a lot more then i thought it would."

chucky5050 replied: "it's so competitive out there you would have to get franchise from a know auto parts dealer for support. i would rather get my parts from advance auto than from jimmy auto parts"

guro replied: "you need to do a survey a location then apply a business permit."

Are there any auto part stores that sell BMW batteries? I'm having a REALLY tough time finding one for my 2001 330ci.... it seems to be some kind of special battery and Autozone and Checker don't carry it.

Roy S replied: "I doubt BMW make their own batteries. Most garages will supply one to fit. RoyS"

sparks replied: "You'd have to go to a BMW dealer for a BMW battery, but the good news is you can find a good replacement for it at any auto parts store, much cheaper and just as good."

Frank T replied: "The best batteries made are optima brand. They look unlike other batteries, since they look like six separate round batteries enclosed in a plastic case. They offer the best performance and durability. BMW does not make their own brand name batteries, so I reccomend the Optima."

Do I have to use R9 freon to refill the a/c in my 92 Saturn, or can I use what's at the auto part store? I've had the car for 2 years and the a/c has never worked. I also don't plan on having the car for much more than 2 (more) years.

gejandsons replied: "The only two refrigerants that I am aware of are R12 & 134A"

bungee replied: "use what the dealer rec."

cubcowboysgirl replied: "R9 was never used in cars, if you want to blow up all of the a/c components then go for it. If you have lived with it so far then why change? R12 was used until the late nineties, take it to a shop and save us the poisoned air."

alarebel6920012002 replied: "R9? i think you mean R12. you have to have the car changed over to R134a freon. you have to have a license to even buy R12 now. take it to a reputable repair shop to have it checked out."

Ron B replied: "You will have to have the system changed over to r134a at an a/c shop."

Heinz M replied: "You have to use what it was built for. ~"

thepitboss replied: "I think you are refering to R-12 and R-134a. Get the conversion kit (about $40) and see if it works. Follow the instructions. Not the best way, but it will give you a starting point. Ideally take it to a shop, but come on it is a '92 Saturn and if you are planning on getting rid of it in a few years then if it works then what have you lost. If it doesn't then you are only out 40 bucks."

Ironball replied: "You will have to get it converted to R134"

I have a Mazda Tribute and my battery keep going dead i took it to the auto part store were I brought the? battery from they took the cable off the battery to see if it was the alternator and the car was still on. Can someone tell me what it could be

vernathome replied: "It is your alternator, that is not a sufficient test go somewhere that can test the actual output of your alternator and you will find it is low."

Gordon B replied: "Taking the battery cable off while the car is running was a very stupid thing to do. It used to be OK when cars had Generators but is a NO-NO with Alternators. However, with that being said, all that told you was that the alternator is putting out enough voltage to keep the car running. It does not tell you how much the alternator is putting out, it also didn't test the battery or check for any draws on the system. You need to have a battery test and then a draw test done to check those two points also."

how do i replace my LED brake light on my cars spoiler and do i buy it from an auto part store or dealership? it is factory i assume??, i can remove the lamps screws but the electrical connector is siliconed to the back of the lamp..not sure if it unplugs somehow...if not how would you replace such a cumbersome light bulb...Do you replace the whole spoiler..that seems impratical???!!

bigjim5551212 replied: "hi, it depends if it is a factory spoiler or aftermarket."

RC replied: "Visit your dealership parts department. They will look up the spoiler and let you know which parts you need, how much they cost and whether or not you can install it yourself. At that point you can decide to purchase it from the dealership, have it installed at the dealership, or handle it however you want to. You can also look up replacement parts for your model of car and see if there is something different you want to try."
